EXHIBITIONS 2025
Devon | Photography Exhibition by Mihail Zaimov October 31 – November 10, 2025 Known as an underwater photographer, I have spent years capturing the hidden stories of the world beneath the surface. After seventeen exhibitions devoted entirely to underwater photography, it is an honor for me to present my first exhibition above the surface — Devon. The name is a nod to the geological period when life first emerged from the water onto land. This exhibition marks my own transition — my personal surfacing. It is an attempt to tell the story of the world I encountered, through the eyes of someone striving to look beyond the visible. Devon is not merely a collection of photographs, but a travelogue of the time that accumulates within us — of the memories that shape us, and of the freedom we discover when we dare to explore new horizons. In your hands you hold an album about transience — not about what fades away, but about what gathers within us. About the small moments that define us: from the comfort of the old home and the silence of a mother’s embrace to the endless roads that lead us toward self-discovery. Each photograph here is a fragment of a grand cinematic narrative without a main character. Across these pages meet memory and freedom — sought in the vast open spaces. A journey that proves the most precious things are not buried in the ground but engraved in our souls. Let this album be a reminder that every sunset and every farewell are merely the beginning of a new adventure — and that the most important things are always within arm’s reach. Mihail Zaimov
DA FEST 10 | Doroteja Dolinšek & Pietro Lugaro and Alessandro Mac-Neli | October 21–25, 2025 Opening: October 21, 2025 (Tuesday), 7:00 PM From October 21 to 25, the tenth edition of the International Festival for Digital Arts – DA Fest will take place in Sofia, organized by the DA LAB Foundation and the National Academy of Art. The theme of this anniversary edition is “æŋˈzaɪəti (Anxiety): Signals from an Uncertain World” – a reflection on tensions, technologies, and the shifting ecological and cultural realities of our time. ONE Gallery hosts the following artists: Doroteja Dolinšek (Slovenia) presents “Biosymbiotic Exoskeleton” – an inflatable suit in which the human body and its microbiome coexist in a symbiotic ecology. Doroteja lives in Ljubljana and works at the intersection of ecology and technology. Her projects have been presented at Ars Electronica, Kapelica Gallery, and 798 Cube. Pietro Lugaro and Alessandro Mac-Neli (Italy/Germany) present “ACV (Algorithmic Cultural Vandalism)” – an interactive installation in which a robotic arm and artificial intelligence create new symbols together with the audience. Pietro explores the origins of language and the cultural logic of signs, while Alessandro works with robotics and machine learning. Together they are recipients of the Ars Electronica Campus Prize 2024. The festival features 14 exhibitions, 5 performances, 5 screening programs, lectures, presentations, and workshops across 15 locations in Sofia.
The Fifth Dimension | 01.08 – 30.09.2025 | Group exhibition Beyond Matter. Beyond Time. Where Image Becomes Energy.
Exhibition of the graduates from the Master’s program in Photography, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ivan Kuranov | 14.07 - 30.07.2025
Raimundo Figueroa “Instructions for daily life” | 17.05.2025 - 10.06.2025 г. A poetic series that confronts the miseries of routinary life and common sense filtered by the creative imagination and the sense of humor of the surrealist. Each of the eleven montages/collages are unique handmade artworks with an assemblage of watercolors, ink drawings and found objects including antique postage and comics from the 60’s together with personal notes from the artist. The collection is the base for Raimundo Figueroa’s pursuit of painting as a spiritual discipline and celebration of living and enjoying daily life.
KOKIMOTO | “Protégé of muses, who in a dark conspiracy are my best illusions” | 1.04 - 10.05.2025 “Hey, I am a protégé of muses, who in a dark conspiracy are my best illusions – for the prince and for freedom”. This stanza from the poem “Draft for a letter to the beloved” by the late Miryana Basheva, although changed for the needs of the exhibition, became the main inspiration for the creation of the works. The poetess’ work offers a clear and so relevant today, direct feminist theme, in which the woman is not judged only by men’s perspective, but she turns look inwards. And despite this suggestion, the exhibition does not offer the conviction that female power needs nothing but itself. Also, the man is not denied in the whole picture, but instead the emphasis is on liberation. The ideas of liberation from the man and the declaration of the "uniqueness" of the female gender have been rethought and reworked by me as a man and as an author of the exhibition. I directed the energy of this very important moment in the poem towards myself in order to extract my personal problematics. In the presented paintings, sculptures, drawings and collages, I extract the meanings of existence from living human interaction in order to impose themselves on our reality, until reaching the absolute rejection of it. In this same reality, in which my best illusions have taken on the most diverse and exotic, cultural and ethnic forms, combined with popular influences from our consumer world, the appearance of the so-called muses is formed. These are not only my illusions about freedom, gender equality and the religions we live with, but it turns out that they live in each of us, and therefore the muses are common too... The opening date was not chosen by chance to be April 1st, and although the presented topics are not at all a joke, I present to you an exhibition with a dose of humor and self-irony appropriate to my style. Until April 24 on the second floor in the gallery space you will have the opportunity to see for yourself the truth of the muses, which in a dark conspiracy turn into our best illusions.
Shahriar Mazandi I ALTERED REALMS | photography Curator: Desislava Zafirova 24.02.2025 - 24.03.2025 Shahriar Mazandi shows for the first time to a Bulgarian audience his art, inspired by the multicultural influence that has influenced his creative and life path. As a product of the Anglo-Iranian multiculturalism, his searches that accompany his work are influenced by Jalal al-Din Rumi from the East and A E Housman from the West. Based in England, where he grew up, he is close to both Judaism and Christianity and seeks truth in contradiction. The author chooses a country like Bulgaria as a starting point for his exhibition not by chance, but more than that - he finds a deep meaning in broadcasting his messages from a side, which is our country in a geopolitical aspect, namely the border of the Eastern and Western worlds. Shahriar Mazandi's work concerns the visible and the invisible - that which lies beyond the boundaries of three-dimensional perception. His photographic work, which resembles what was known as solarisation in the days of analog film, hints at the 4th, 5th dimensions, and beyond that which can be imagined but not perceived. His conventional photographs are minimalist, relying on a reduction to key elements of composition with subjects often far and distant in vast landscapes - raising the question "are we like insignificant specks of dust in a vast universe or do each of us have a greater purpose?" The fire-based series are mirrored and refracted six times through a mirror filter until they resemble Rorschach inkblots. They have no single fixed point of reference, but what is observed is subject to the viewer's perception. Some may see distorted anatomy, impossible zoomorphic forms, or any other form that emerges from the individual's own Pandora's box. In contrast, cityscape photographs have a strong fixed focal point that acts as an “axis of the world,” with buildings or structures as connecting rods between this realm and those above and below. Bridging the worlds of visual art, music, and poetry, his work explores the uncharted territories of human perception, language, and the subconscious. His practice defies categorization, combining traditional and digital techniques to create works that pulsate with an almost hypnotic intensity. At the heart of Mazandi’s work is his unique approach to text and form. His early poetic experiments lay the foundations for a visual language that balances word and image, meaning and abstraction. His typographic experiments—often dense, multi-layered, and deconstructed—challenge the way we perceive language, challenging us to see words not simply as carriers of meaning, but as dynamic visual objects.
