KOKIMOTO
KOKIMOTO (Kaloyan Iliev, b. 1979) was born in Varna, Bulgaria. He holds a Master’s degree in Art Education Pedagogy with a specialization in Printmaking from the Faculty of Fine Arts at St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Tarnovo (2008). In the same year, he completed a specialization at the Printmaking Department of the Academy of Fine Arts “Władysław Strzemiński” in Łódź, Poland.
In his work, KOKIMOTO explores the relationships between himself and others within the framework of a manipulated reality. His prints, drawings, collages, photographs, and installations depict extraordinary and often shadowy worlds, shaped both by personal memories and imaginative invention. Many of his works reveal a strong interest in social issues—such as the new world order, the role of contemporary icons in society, and attitudes toward animals—as well as emotional and psychological states like narcissism, the longing for love, and the pursuit of beauty.
KOKIMOTO frequently incorporates existing visual material, which he enriches with his own narrative-based developments. Through this process, he retells personal stories in a new way, drawing attention to specific aspects of the plot and reinterpreting his experiences—this time as a viewer.
